Coroners and Medical Examiners

The Forensic Division of Regional Pathology and Autopsy Services offers autopsy services to sheriff - coroner’s and medical examiner’s offices in California.  We have several board-certified forensic pathologists on staff. Our goal is to serve the law enforcement community with professionalism, efficiency, and reliability. 

What RPAS Provides to Coroner & Medical Examiner Offices
RPAS is capable of providing coroner and medical examiner offices with a wide range of services to suit their particular needs.  Service options include: forensic pathologist accompanied by an autopsy technician for complete autopsy with signout; forensic pathologist to be assisted by your employee(s); or just an autopsy technician to assist your pathologist.

RPAS can also provide instruction for new or inexperienced coroner/M.E. employees about autopsy technician best-practices as well as imperative information that should be included in every death investigation report.    

Our company prides itself on being able to adapt to whatever your needs are, whether that be a full-time contract or vacation and sick leave coverage.  RPAS has relationships with pathology specialists, toxicology labs, DNA facilities, and multiple other invaluable resources.

Education of our employees ranges from bachelor’s degrees to Ph.D degrees, with many of our employees being well-regarded, top experts in their respective fields.  
  • Administration of RPAS are experienced M.E. and coroner investigators with years of training and involvement with sheriff-coroner offices throughout California. This enables us to understand and tailor RPAS’s services to specific needs.
  • RPAS’s management is very experienced in pathology and law enforcement and has the right combination of skills when blended with the needs of law enforcement.
  • Our company incorporates experienced forensic and anatomic pathologists (including specialties in neuropathology and cardiopulmonary pathology), experienced ASCP certified pathologists' assistants, experienced autopsy technicians, and former M.E. investigators and deputy sheriff/coroners with decades of experience.
  • Our Forensic Division is currently assembling comprehensive coverage for Northern California. 
  • RPAS issues a final report within 45-60 business-days (unless special testing dictates otherwise).
  • RPAS employees routinely deal with subpoenas, depositions, and courtroom testimony.
Above all else, RPAS offers you flexibility and accountability.  Flexibility: we will work with your office on an as-needed basis or through a contract.  Decedents may be transported to one of our facilities or we will travel to you.  Whatever the need, we will do our best to accommodate.  Accountability: RPAS is not a large corporation and your needs will not fall on deaf ears.  RPAS stands by its word and you will have access to direct communication with the director of our company.  Any complications or concerns will be dealt with in a timely manner, and you can be assured that everything RPAS does for your office will be completed with the highest degree of diligence and professionalism.
